Temporary
Normally, once your teeth are prepared for porcelain veneers, you will be sent away with plastic veneers until your final veneers are fabricated by the lab and inserted 2 to 3 weeks later.
Temporary veneers are not fully sealed to your teeth; only a temporary adhesive is used. While you are wearing these temporary veneers you are advised to avoid certain foods and drinks, and to treat the veneers gently so they don’t chip, stain or fracture (which can lead to increased teeth sensitivity) or fall out (which can be socially embarrassing).
Temporary veneers can also be difficult to eat with, smile with or talk with – making them a social hindrance, to say the least. If they do fall out, chip or cause you pain, you will need to go back to your dentist for a repair, meaning more unnecessary discomfort, multiple local anaesthetic injections, lost time, and possibly additional travel expenses. It’s not uncommon for some patients to go into varying degrees of social isolation while wearing temporary veneers.
Same-day

No time is spent having temporary veneers made and fitted, then later removed. When temporary is better
Admittedly, some patients are greatly advantaged by choosing temporary veneers. Crucially this process gives you an opportunity to not proceed at all with porcelain veneers, if that is your wish.
So why aren’t all cosmetic dentists doing porcelain veneers in one day?
1. The cost of high-end equipment, including multiple units of top of the range scanners and 3D printers. At Smile Solutions we have invested more than $5 million in scanners, milling units and 3D printers.
2. The need for an in-house lab (such as at Smile Solutions), with multiple experienced master ceramists dedicated exclusively to our clients, allowing for timetabling to be dedicated to a single patient per day per master ceramist. Cosmetic dentists who rely on third-party labs to manufacture their porcelain veneers cannot offer such dedication since third party labs depend for their commercial viability on high turnover of the veneers for a multitude of cosmetic dentists.
