TMD & Teeth Grinding

Bruxism, or grinding and clenching of the teeth, is a common condition that often goes undiagnosed. Unmanaged bruxism will lead to long-term irreversible wear and damage and the need for complex restorative treatment.
In some cases bruxism is self-diagnosed but in many cases it is diagnosed by others (such as a partner who hears the grinding during the night) or by a dental professional who notices evidence such as worn-down teeth or fractures of the teeth or dental restorations.
Stressful life events, altered mood, sleep disorders (such as restless leg syndrome and sleep apnoea), smoking, alcohol, caffeine, and some prescription or recreational drugs are risk factors contributing to bruxism. However, many individuals suffer from bruxism without a clear cause.
Learn MoreSnoring & Sleep Apnoea

Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) is a condition where breathing is repeatedly interrupted during sleep due to a collapse of the upper airway.
When we sleep, our muscles relax, including our through muscles. In some people the throat muscles can relax enough to cause the throat to close above the voice box causing a blockage (or obstruction). This can stop regular breathing, called an “apnoea”. This disease is called obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA).
OSA will cause a lack of restful sleep leaving the sufferer continuously tired and seriously impacting daily activities and lifestyle. Snoring can be both a precursor and a symptom OSA.
Learn MoreEarly Intervention Specialist Paediatric Care

Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders in children can lead to issues such as a high palate, tongue thrusting, and difficulty with proper oral posture. Early intervention is key, and at Smile Solutions our team of experienced specialists work closely with parents and children to address these concerns and achieve optimal functional health.
Our clinicians pay close attention to the function of the muscles of the face and jaw through techniques like palatal expansion, behavioural therapy, and targeted exercises to improve tongue posture and function. This can help prevent long-term problems with dental development, speech, and overall health.

We are equipped with the Planmeca 2D two-dimensional digital imaging system, which produces the most precise, highest quality orthopantograms and lateral cephalograms. Having these available during your appointment is particularly convenient if images are needed for your treatment planning – whether for general dentistry or orthodontics. This imaging system facilitates both open- and closed-mouth image capture, and correct patient positioning is assisted by a triple laser beam. The Planmeca 2D is equipped with a ‘child mode’, which ensures the safest X-rays for your child; and with a one-shot function, the X-ray can be taken in just one image – ideal for children (and adults!) who have trouble sitting still. The result is the perfect image, every time.
Intraoral Digital Radiographs
Smile Solutions uses intraoral digital radiographs to ensure safer, lower radiation levels than conventional x-rays. These radiographs offer the added convenience of high-quality images displayed directly on the computer screen, allowing your clinician to clearly illustrate the situation to you.
Sleep testing for sleep apnoea involves monitoring your breathing patterns and oxygen levels during sleep to diagnose the condition. This can be done through an in-lab polysomnography or a more convenient home sleep test. Identifying sleep apnoea helps determine the right treatment to improve sleep quality and reduce associated health risks.
Photography Studio
Smile Solutions has it’s own professional photography studio, which is an excellent opportunity for patients to document their smile makeover journey should they wish to do so. A set of professional photos is an excellent memento to take away once treatment is compete.
