Specialist Periodontist & Specialist Prosthodontist Qualifications – BDSc, DCD (Pros), Cert.Perio MS (Minn)
Simon established Periodontal Associates after returning from living and working in the USA. He is a registered specialist periodontist with the Dental Board of Australia and is the only Periodontist in Australia who is also registered as a Specialist Prosthodontist. His practice is now restricted to Periodontology including periodontal regenerative procedures and dental implants but he still enjoys using the expertise he gained as a Prosthodontist to optimise treatment planning when working with referring dentists and other dental Specialists.
Simon gained his undergraduate degree (BDSc) in dentistry at the University of Melbourne in 1995. Following graduation, he entered the RAAF as a Dental Officer after which he spent 6 years in general practice in Geelong. He then completed a 3-year full-time specialist degree in Prosthodontics (DCD) at the University of Melbourne in 2007 and a further 3 years full-time specialist training in Periodontics at the University of Minnesota, USA. His research at the University of Minnesota focused on the effect of surgical experience and surgical guide design on the accuracy of dental implant surgery. He has published research in the fields of Prosthodontics and Periodontology in international journals.
Simon is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Periodontists, the Australian Society of Periodontology, the Australian Dental Association, and the International Team of Implantology. In 2011 he was elected the President of the Victorian branch of the Australasian Osseointegration Society.
He keeps up-to-date with the latest procedures and is actively involved in mentoring.
