Conventional & immediate implants

There are different types of dental implants, which during consultation, you and your clinician can discuss which will be best for you.

Conventional Dental Implants

Conventional Dental Implants

Conventional implants involve a staged approach, with the implant placed first and the crown fitted after a healing period of three to six months. They are suitable for most patients seeking a long-term solution and offer a very high success rate. Benefits include a reliable, durable restoration and a natural-looking result that blends seamlessly with your own teeth.
Immediate Dental Implants

Immediate Dental Implants

Immediate implants place the implant and replacement tooth on the same day. They are suitable for patients with good bone density and no infection, though bone grafting may make the procedure possible in other cases. Benefits include a shorter treatment timeline, avoiding time without a tooth, and being ideal for broken or soon-to-be-removed teeth.

Conventional & immediate dental implants have three main components

1

Titanium Screw

This is the screw component placed into the jawbone. It acts as the artificial tooth root and provides a stable foundation for the rest of the implant.
2

Abutment

The abutment is a metal connector attached to the fixture. It sits above the gumline and supports the final crown.
3

Crown

The crown is secured on top of the abutment and completes the restoration. It is made either from all-ceramic materials or porcelain fused to precious metal.

What is the process for conventional and immediate implants?

1

Tooth removal

Any damaged tooth is removed, leaving a space ready for the implant.
2

Implant placement

The implant fixture is placed into the jawbone. For conventional implants, the implant then integrates with the bone over three to six months to form a stable foundation. For immediate implants, the implant and a temporary replacement tooth are placed on the same day.
3

Abutment attachment

Once the implant has healed, the abutment is attached to provide a secure connection for the crown. (Primarily relevant to conventional implants; for immediate implants, a temporary abutment may be placed the same day.)
4

Crown placement

A custom crown is fitted to replicate a natural tooth, completing the restoration. (For immediate implants, the temporary or final crown may be placed on the same day or after healing.)
