Sedation-DentistryModern dentistry has advanced considerably and now with the latest technologies, many procedures are now as painless as possible.

Here at Smile Solutions we realise that many people may still have a fear of dental treatment. You may even have been putting off that much needed treatment because of fear, anxiety or even time constraints.

All of our staff understand your anxieties and are therefore highly trained in techniques on how to make you feel as comfortable as possible.

“What can I do if I’m nervous of dental treatment?”

Firstly, please contact us. We will never make you feel uncomfortable or embarrassed about your dental needs – we are here to help, relax and calm you, and will always discuss the best way to treat your dental problems and address your anxieties.

Our clinic is specifically designed to relax and calm you, with soothing music, relaxing couches,  scented candles and calming decor.

However, sometimes our relaxing atmosphere and skilled emphatic clinicians are not enough if you have deep-seated anxieties about visits to the dentist or treatment, in that case we can offer you sedation or sleep dentistry.

What is sleep dentistry?

At Smile Solutions we can offer many types of sedation dentistry, and we will find a treatment and sedation package that is tailored to your exact needs.

IV Sedation

At Smile Solutions we have a registered Specialist Aneaestheist, Dr Anthony Singh, as part of our extensive specialist team. Anthony works in conjunction with a number of our expert dentists to provide all the treatment you may require, from simple treatments to complex cases.

A thorough medical evaluation is carried out prior to your treatment to guarantee your safety, and a safe individually tailored dose of anesthesia is administered by our specialist.

The anesthesia is a mix of sedative and pain relieving medicines, which together induce a drowsy dreamlike state, there are no tubes in your throat and you are able to respond to any commands if needed.

At all times Anthony is there to monitor you, and guarantee your safety, whilst our skilled clinicians carry out any treatment you may need.

This mode of treatment is very comfortable and you will have minimal memory of the procedure, and is ideal for patients who are very nervous about treatment.

Happy gas

Nitrous Oxide as it is otherwise known, is a very safe and common way to relieve anxiety during dental treatment. A mix of Nitrogen and oxygen is administered though a nosepiece, prior to treatment, in the comfort and care of one of our trained sedation dentists. All your treatment is then safely carried out.

Happy gas will provide a mild form of sedation and pain relief and is ideal for those patients who are a moderately nervous about their treatment.

Oral sedation

A common and easy way to relax your nerves before a dental procedure is the prescription of a calming drug prior to your appointment, such as Temazepam or Diazepam (Valium).

These medications can be prescribed by one of our expert clinicians, and will relax and calm you prior to any procedure that may be worrying you.

If you have any questions about sedation dentistry, please call or come in and see one of our friendly team members. Remember that we are a team of dentists and specialists who’s aim is to provide you with the highest possible care available, with the least amount of discomfort, and to give you the smile that you deserve.
